The first animated clips for EBE are available to be seen at:

Still looking for animators! If you want in, just let me know!

First clips!

Hi folks,
If you've been following the EBE Kickstarter Updates, you know I've recently started contacting some animators about creating short sequences for the film. I'm super excited and some great guys have signed on and I'm really excited about who's in the lineup so far. But it's only a start and I'm ready to make the general call for animators on the site.

The plan is to cut the edited interview audio into little segments and invite animators to listen to an mp3 and interpret and animate to the stories they hear. Anyone who's willing to spend some of their time animating these short (3-5 min tops) segments, I want to hear from you. Just send me a PM or comment here and I'll check out your stuff and be in touch. Everyone can work in their own style and will be credited of course and it should be a pretty amazing collaboration in the end.

So far, I've got:
Ajay Karat - http://www.devilsgarage.com/
TyStarr - http://tystarr.newgrounds.com/
The Swain - http://www.theswain.com/
Luis CastaƱon - http://luis.newgrounds.com/
Mick "Rice Pirate" Laurer - http://www.ricepirate.com/
and Chad Kaplan - http://vimeo.com/chadkaplan

Who wants in on the biggest collab ever?

All is well. Progress with the film remains slow but steady. One fun fact: So, while working on the film I went through a HUGE pile of old VHS tapes in the Newgrounds archives to find material and encode them for future generations. Among the treasures unearthed was this beauty:

I had only recently learned about the OTHER Newgrounds, so this was a real find. What a crazy coincidence!

So there's a winner in the sticker contest!
It's this guy with the art below.
Pretty great, eh?
I'll try to come up with some other little prizes for the other entrants, too. I appreciate everyone's effort.

Apart from that, the footage cave continues.

Winner

Hey folks, happy 2011. A couple news items:
I am relaunching the sticker contest. A few months back I tried to have a sticker design contest with the winning design becoming artwork that I'd use to promote the film, starting with stickers that I could pass out to promote the film and to give to the Kickstarter backers. Long story short, while a couple guys took a crack at it which I appreciate, I didn't really get anything I could use. So I'm trying it again.

Sticker Contest!!
So I need a swanky sticker to send out and I thought I'd open it up to the creative minds of the NG community to determine what the thing might look like. What better way than with a contest?

Entries:
- Need to be original artwork that you drew (not stolen and photoshopped) and
- Must measure 3 inches by 4 inches and at least 300 dpi and
- Can be 2 colors or full (4) colors CMYK
(Note: If you do a full color design, it would be great if you also had a two color version of it. It makes it way more useful.)
- Should include the film's name "Everything, By Everyone" and url http://everything-by-everyone.com

Entries should fall into one of two categories:
1.designs that use a bunch of NG characters
and or
2.designs that are completely original artwork that gets across the theme of lots of people all over the world using the internet to do creative work

Entries must be posted in this thread by the end of the day Monday, Jan 31st.

If your design is chosen you will win:
- a bunch of the stickers you designed!
- your name in the film's credits under "promotional artwork"
- a reference from me the next time you try to get an art related job "Yeah, I know that guy, he's awesome. Hire him (or her) right now!"
- everlasting fame!
- a cookie!
- possibly some mystery prize as well! (I like coming up with mystery prizes)
Who's in??

If you have any (relevant) questions, you can email me directly at nakrown at everything-by-everyone dot com.

In other news, I continue to wade through the footage and I also recently shot one of my last interviews, DJ Gregg Gillis, better known as Girl Talk. I wanted to hear his thoughts on copyright law and sampling in the internet age and how to make a living distributing your work online for free.
Here's to a productive 2011! Back to it.

Thank you.
Nathan

Howdy,
Little update here. I am currently enshrouded in my batcave/editing suite/Y2K bunker and things are going along nicely. Continuing transcription/capturing etc which is always a bit tedious as I pretty much have to go through everything in real time and then capture clips in real time, but it helps when the subjects are so interesting and this is exactly what I signed up for.
Recently in the can, interviews with Xeth Feinberg (web flash pioneer and all around nice guy)
http://www.mishmashmedia.com/
as well as, possibly my most "meta" interview, Yancey Strickler from Kickstarter.com.
http://www.kickstarter.com/
Kickstarter's a neat place. Very friendly. Very dotcomey.
That's all for now! (I said it was little.) Thanks again.

Greetings from the mid-west and the world of academia!
In the past few days I've interviewed some of the smartest people I've ever met, including Tim Bavlnka and Ted Freeseman from the Popular Culture Dept at Bowling Green State University and Jeff Bardzell and John Paolillo from the School of Informatics and Computing at Bloomington University. Hours of tape later I've gained additional insight into where some web culture and aesthetics come from, the history of the web as an entertainment and multimedia platform and where Newgrounds fits into that history, all from an academic perspective. I feel smarter for merely having been in the room with them. This more or less concludes the road-tripping needed for the film, the final handful of folks I'd like to talk to being largely located in Philly and nearby NYC. In the near future I'll be reestablished in Philly and resuming the review and edit of material!

So far, so good.

P.S. Concerning the sticker contest, I'm thinking I need to either extend the deadline or take another crack at it later. I was not crushed to death under a flood of entries. (I will try to do something nice though for the couple guys who did try something.)

So, I'm pleased to announce the launching of Kickstarter's first promotional tie-in video game!
My pals Sean McKenzie and Ajay Karat worked tirelessly and selflessly to create "Indie Jones" a fantastically fun mini-game to promote the Kickstarter pledge drive, bring in a few more pledges in the 11th hour and otherwise raise the profile of the project online.

Please spend every moment your boss isn't watching trying to save me from being crushed by a giant boulder and pass the game around to all your favorite procrastinators. It is addictive.

We've already been frontpaged on Newgrounds and the Kickstarter Blog! (Thanks guys.)

When you have a minute for more awesome, check out Sean and Ajay @

I can't thank those guys enough.

Eight days to go, folks! Pledges can be made and prizes earned until midnight on September 1st.

And again, thank you. Be well.
